A Girl bookcoverA Girl, A Bike, A Dream

A biker chick’s autobiography – by Sandi Langton

My passion about bikes and adventures travel has taken me all over the world, including an 8 month trip through Europe and Africa, which I wrote about in my book, “A Girl, A Bike, A Dream”.  The book is based on the original blog but has a bit more information and a few more stories.  There is a section of motorcycle travel tips at the back.

Since arriving back in South Africa I do talks about the bike trip called “Living the Dream”.  The talks are always different but the core message is that getting to live the dream is not always easy.  It takes time and dedication.  It takes passion and being stubborn. It means picking yourself up when you are down and walking some lonely roads on your own.  It means planning things carefully and seeing things through when they go wrong.  People sometimes focus on the wow factor and not on the effort that went into it.  I remember a few times on the trip when I broke down into tears.  I also think back fondly on my time in the Sahara Desert – and how I faced my greatest fear.  The thought of crossing the Sahara filled me with terror as I was so completely useless at riding in sand. I remember how utterly fantastic it felt at the end of each day to simply be alive, fed and looking up at millions of stars in the middle of nowhere.  By the time I was in Ethiopia I was riding off-road with ease.  Now I can’t imagine that there ever was a time in my life that the sight of gravel made me go into a rigid sweat.

Charlie Russ Claudio SandiTwo Wheel Africa Tours is born out of my passion for motorcycle adventure travel.  I want to share this experience with other people – because it is just so awesome.  Not eveyone can take months out to travel and make a lifestyle out of it.  Hardly anyone is as famous as Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman of the Long Way Round & Down TV series – and so finding that kind of sponsorship and support is almost completely impossible for most people.  But everyone who has the dream to ride a bike in Southern Africa can certainly do it – and my company can assist getting all the logistics set up.  Please do not hesitate to get in touch.
